'What Do You Want To Do Today?' | Summer Activities to Mix Up Your Fitness Routine

Summer is my favourite season of the year! We get to be outside more, in that beautiful sunshine, enjoying longer days and warm nights. Being out in the sun brings me so much joy!

I wanted to give some suggestions on summer activities that you could do this season that will enhance your health and fitness goals, instead of sabotaging them! It’s easy to be outside and do nothing, think about. sitting out in the sun and tanning, snacking and sitting out on the patio. So here are a few activities you can suggest the next time your friends ask what you want to do today!

Go for a walk/hike

Hitting the trail this summer helps to build muscle, clear your head and invites in the fresh air. What better way to challenge your body then with a moderate-intensity hike at your favorite park, mountain or nearby trail. 

An hour hike can burn over 350 calories and will challenge and tone your muscles when you're trekking on an incline.

Head to your local outdoor pool

If you’re looking for a way to challenge your body and get a great cardio workout, look no further, swimming is about to become your new fave summer workout! Swimming is a great way to get in touch with nature, challenge the body with an all-over workout and cool down. This summer favorite tones the body, boosts metabolism and burns massive calories; so what's not to love?

Create a beach workout

I love creating workouts on my own and for others, so I think it would be so fun to get program a workout, and get a bunch of friends together for a fun, challenging beach workout. We did this on the Retox Retreat on Sauble Beach, and it was so freaking hard, but with the group’s encouragement and motivation, it was so awesome!

Go on a bike ride

A good bike ride will torch up to 500 calories an hour, is gentle on the environment and a total body workout. Be sure to stay in the bike lanes, wear bright, reflective gear, and stay away from traffic-heavy areas!

All of these activities are super simple ideas, but we tend to overthink our summer plans because we just want to make it last forever! Which I totally understand! but just remember that sometimes, simple is just better, and honestly, less stressful to plan! What other summer activities do you try to get out and do?
