How to Create a Successful and Healthy Night time Routine | Summer 2019

This week, I wanted to chat about night time routines. Everyone’s got a bed time routine, whether they know it or not. We all wash our faces, brush our teeth, and put on pyjamas, but some of us go that extra mile to make our night time routines’ successful, like meditation, journaling and the good ole’ Netflix and relax time! I’ve cultivated a really well-rounded night routine in the last like year or so, and it honestly it has changed the game for me when it comes to my mood and even my sleeping.

I wanted to share a few tips and tricks for you to implement into your own night time routine to make it a successful one so you wake up feeling refreshed and ready for the next day!

Try to step away from your phone 30 minutes to 1 hour before bed

This has been one that i’ve been trying to keep at for about 6 months now, and honestly it can be pretty difficult on some days. We all love scrolling on our phones, and at night it’s just calling to you. It’s easy to get in that trap of going on Instagram, and then that turns into watching someone’s story which could lead to watching their 22 minute vlog, and then all of a sudden is midnight and you’re like where did the time go, I’m exhausted.

So it’s really important to try to step away from it. Keep it in the charger and leave it. Turn off your notifications. Tell your friends you won’t be answering their messages if you have too. Just do whatever you need to do to just get away from the harsh, distracting blue light that is affecting your sleep.

Do one thing that makes you happy

This is super vague, but that’s the point! It’ll be different for everyone because everyone has different interests. Personally before I bed I love reading, or meditating because it just helps me unwind and get in that sleep mode a little better than watching something on Netflix. But for others falling to sleep to their favourite shows works for them! So just do what feels right for you! This tip always makes me feel good and just sets me up for a good night’s rest!

Set out your outfit for the next day

I am an extreme organizer so I love being prepared for anything. When it comes to prepping for work, I always like to set out my clothes for the next day so I don’t have to think about it in the morning. Honestly in the morning, the last thing I want to do is stress about how I look, so this just helps future me!

Write down 3 things you are grateful for

This is my favourite tip because it’s just something so special to me. I have been doing this for about 2 years now and it just makes me so happy to think back on the last 24 hours and think about the things I am grateful for. I try to be really specific about the things that go on this list. I don’t like putting like physical things on there, I really try to put more feelings or emotions. so like ‘I am grateful for being able to walk on my lunch on the trail outside of my work because it helps me clear my head, and get a bit of sunshine which always makes me happy.’ If you do this one, try to look back on the last 24 hours. what are the moments that pop out to you? And as you keep doing it, you’ll start to notice throughout your day things you want to write down later that evening!

I really hope you all enjoyed these tips. I hope you take something positive from it, and implement it into your own routine! And if you do, be sure to leave me a comment, or send me a dm on Insta! xo
